The game is played by 2 teams. One vs One (singles), Two vs Two (doubles), or Three vs Three (triples).
Toss a coin to choose the starting team. The winning team draws a circle of about eighteen inches in diameter.
Throw the wooden jack between 6 meters and 10 meters away. The thrower's feet must stay inside the circle.
The first team then throws the first boule. He or she tries to place it as close as possible to the jack. His or her feet must again remain inside the circle until the boule lands.
A player on the second team comes into the circle. He or she tries to throw his or her boule even closer to the jack or knock away the other team's leading boule. The boule nearest to the jack leads.
It's up to the team not leading to throw until his or her own team gets a leading boule. Then it's the opposing team's turn to throw. When a team has no boules left the other team throws their remaining boules and tries to place them as close as possible to the jack.
When neither team has any boules left the points are counted. The winning team gets as many points as it has boules which are better placed than the best of the losing team.
An "end" is over when each team has thrown all its boules. The winning team starts a new end by drawing a circle where the previous end finished, and throws the jack again. The game continues until one of the teams has reaches 13 points. The Offical Rules
